Black-chinned Hummingbird (Archilochus alexandri)
There
are two species of hummingbirds that show up every summer
at the campground. This one, is a female black-chinned
hummer, who is trying to get a quick drink of sugar water
from the feeder before the male comes around to scare her
away! Many hours are spent by our campers, sitting on the
veranda watching these tiny, VERY FAST birds hovering
around the tree and feeders. Perching on the feeders makes
the photography of these birds, much
easier!
The
feeders provide a quick fix of sugar water, but their
primary diet is that of insects!
