Elk (Cervus canadensis)
Each fall, we are fortunate to
watch the elk of the area congregate for the fall rut. This
past fall, we counted over 200 female and calf elk, along
with a few bulls as they fed and wandered past the
campgrounds. I have flown over the campgrounds a number of
times during the winter and been able to observe a large
number of them resting on the property. These animals are
slowly crossing our friend and neighbour's property, which
starts only meters away from the front entrance of the
campground.
